THe Hierarchy of Activities

Original Reflection (from several years ago):

In the past, I grappled with a mental block regarding the hierarchy of activities (if you can watch a movie or play videogames or whatever, then why would you work on a project?). This is not a real hierarchy, it's just something my mind has constructed (And since I relax less often than I work, there is a relative "scarcity", which makes it "higher" value.) This is of course ridiculous, if I were to spend weeks just watching tv and playign videogames, well then I would be craving working on a project... it would be the same hierarchy; just flipped. Society unfortunately promotes this idea that certain activities are "freetime" activities and others are "work" activities.

The bottom line is that I struggled with engaging in work-related tasks at home, influenced by the more enjoyable or leisurely alternatives available. This mindset hindered my productivity and focus, as I would be too tempted to just "relax" instead of "work"... and then I also felt like I never had a break even though I was always "on break".

Current Perspective:

Today, my approach to work and personal life has undergone a significant transformation. This evolution in mindset has led to several positive changes:

  • Embrace Dedicated Workspaces: I now spend focused hours at a co-working space, immersing myself in tasks without the distractions of home. This environment fosters productivity and keeps me dedicated to my work.

  • Prioritize Tasks Effectively: I've learned to tackle projects with a growth mindset, understanding the value of my time at work. This approach has enabled me to engage with all aspects of my work more efficiently and meaningfully.

  • Maintain Work-Life Balance: Keeping home as a non-work zone has cultivated a healthy balance, enhancing my overall well-being and productivity. This separation ensures I return to work refreshed and more effective.

  • Growth and Adaptability: This journey from my past mindset to my current one is a testament to my professional development. It reflects my commitment to continuous improvement, adaptability, and the value of embracing challenges.

In summary, this journey showcases my growth as a professional, highlighting my dedication to adaptability, maintaining a healthy work-life balance, and embracing continuous learning.
